Break Out the Wrenches it’s Time to get Winchin’
Alright, on this winch build my goal is to build a winch as cheap as possible and as simple as possible. I want design this one so it’s built from easy to obtain materials and easy to assemble.
I feel like wakeskating follows more in the footsteps of skateboarding than wakeboarding. Wakeskaters tend to have more of the D.I.Y.(Do It Yourself) attitude than just going to mommy and daddy for $50k to drop on a wakeboard boat so they can drive up and down the lake listening to LinkinPark and chugging Budlight. The problem is even a winch can get a little expensive. I want to build one that just about any group of friends can muster up the cash for.
With that said I would like for you guys to post your ideas and previous winch builds. I know there are some things we won’t be able to get around buying like the engine and torque converter. But, we can all help one another out if you know where to get em cheap.
I’m planning on starting the build this weekend. I want to try 3/4″ treated plywood for the sides and bottom with slotted angle iron bolted to it for the actual framing. This should create a decently rigid frame that requires no welding. I will post all of the material lists and directions along with pictures as I build it.
So, post your ideas and let’s get building a cheap and easy winch so we can make sure that no pond, fountain, pool, drainage ditch or whatever is safe from being ripped.
